Privacy Policy
Effective Date: June 2026 · RISE Reporting, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit · hello@risereporting.com
1. Who We Are
The RISE Social Legacy Project is a tool created by RISE Reporting, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the United States. Our mission is to help families preserve and share the stories of their elders across generations.
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, you can reach us at hello@risereporting.com.
2. Who This Tool Is For
This tool is designed for users who are 13 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you are under 13, you must have a parent or guardian complete this project alongside you. If we learn that a user under 13 has provided personal information without parental consent, we will take steps to remove that information promptly.
This tool complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by restricting access to users 13 and older and by not collecting personal data on our servers from any user.
3. What Data We Do NOT Collect
The following information is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to, stored on, or accessible by RISE Social or any third party:
- Photos and images you upload
- Video clips you upload
- Audio recordings you make using the narration feature
- Interview notes you type into the tool
- Your name or your elder's name
- Your elder's location
- Music files you upload
- The finished legacy film, if generated in the browser
All of the above is handled entirely within your browser's memory. When you close the browser tab, all of this information is permanently gone. Nothing is saved to a database, cloud service, or any RISE Social server.
4. What Limited Data We Do Collect
a) Notification email (optional)
If you choose to enter your email address to be notified when the film generation feature is ready, we store that email address in a secure mailing list. We will only use it to send you one notification when the feature launches. We will never share your email with third parties or use it for marketing without your separate consent.
b) Website analytics (anonymous)
Our hosting provider (Netlify) may collect standard anonymous web traffic information such as page visits, browser type, and approximate geographic region. This data does not identify individual users and is used only to understand how the tool is being used in aggregate.
c) AI summarization (optional, opt-in only)
The Interview Notes step includes an optional AI feature that can summarize your notes. This feature only activates if you choose to enter an Anthropic API key. If you use this feature, the text notes you type for that specific question are sent to Anthropic's API servers to generate a summary. No photos, videos, or audio are ever sent. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to that interaction: anthropic.com/privacy. This feature is entirely optional — the tool works fully without it.
5. How We Protect Your Information
Because your files and notes are processed entirely on your device, they are protected by your own device's security. We do not have access to them, which means we cannot accidentally expose them, sell them, or lose them in a data breach on our end.
For the limited data we do handle (notification emails), we use industry-standard security practices and reputable third-party services.
6. Do We Share Your Information?
We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for marketing or commercial purposes. The only third-party data interaction is the optional Anthropic AI summarization feature described in Section 4(c), which you must explicitly opt into.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request deletion of your email address from our notification list at any time by emailing hello@risereporting.com
- Ask us what information (if any) we hold about you
- Withdraw any consent you have given at any time
Because we do not store your files or notes, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf for those items — they only ever existed on your device.
8. COPPA Compliance
COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) protects children under 13 from having their personal information collected online without verified parental consent. RISE Social Legacy Project complies with COPPA by:
- Requiring users to confirm they are 13 or older before using the tool
- Not collecting personal information on any server from any user
- Directing users under 13 to use the tool only with a parent or guardian
- Not using any advertising, behavioral tracking, or data profiling
9. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will post a notice on the tool's landing page. Your continued use of the tool after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
Questions or Concerns?
We take privacy seriously and are happy to answer any questions.
